Hundreds attend the Space for Cycling ride in Manchester

Cyclists at the Space for Cycling ride in Manchester
The ride which was a coordinated effort between CTC the national cycling charity and Greater Manchester Cycle Campaigners started on Monday 22 September at 6pm was well attended. Over 300 members of the public, Councillors and MPs all showed united support for the national Space for Cycling campaign aimed at getting Britain Cycling. Among the ride’s supporters was Shadow Transport Minister Richard Burden, MP Meg Hillier for Hackney and Parliamentary candidate for Sheffield Hallam, Oliver Coppard who will be challenging Nick Clegg’s seat in 2015.
“It’s fantastic to see so many people turn out for the ride. There is no doubt that British people want the safe, high quality cycle infrastructure that Space for Cycling aims to ensure. Commitment from our government to long-term and consistent funding for cycling, is long overdue” said CTC Campaigns Director, Roger Geffen.
It was great to see so many cyclists in Manchester at conference, calling for action on leadership and funding. Labour is committed to delivering space for safer cycling in Government."

The ride is the first of two CTC organised fun rides with a serious message that are scheduled to take place, with the next at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham on 29 September.
