CTC and CyclingBuddy

Cycling buddies
CTC, the national cycling charity, and CyclingBuddy.com are teaming up to promote cycling in the UK.

The partnership will encourage CTC’s 70,000 members to access the CyclingBuddy website and give them the opportunity show they are CTC members in their profile.

Whilst the CyclingBuddy community will be encouraged to consider CTC membership to support their cycling activities. They will also gain access to CTC benefits including local cycling groups, clubs, training and specialist cycling insurance.

The CyclingBuddy online network is a free website that helps members ‘buddy up’ to go cycling. Members can also log their rides, map and share their favourite routes and search for cycling events.

CyclingBuddy founder Tony Piedade said: “The partnership with CTC is an obvious one; we share the common goal of helping people take up cycling and give them the social network to keep them cycling.”

CTC Chief Executive Gordon Seabright said: “CyclingBuddy is a great fit for us as the national cycling charity. We work hard to inspire people to cycle and getting both our members and cycling newcomers to be part of the CyclingBuddy online network is an excellent way to support people to get the most out of cycling.”

Notes to editors

CTC, the national cycling charity, inspires and helps people to cycle and keep cycling, whatever kind of cycling they do or would like to do. Over a century’s experience tells us that cycling is more than useful transport; it makes you feel good, gives you a sense of freedom and creates a better environment for everyone.

  • We provide expert, practical help and advice.
  • We support individuals and communities.
  • We protect cyclists’ interests.
  • We campaign to make cycling mainstream and to remove the things that stop people cycling.
  • We help people develop the confidence and skills to cycle.
  • We promote the benefits of cycling to individuals, to society and to the economy.

CyclingBuddy.com is a totally free site that helps members find other members to cycle with. In addition, members can log their cycle rides, map their cycle routes, share new routes, and search for events.  Since March 2012 members have logged over 660,000 miles.  CyclingBuddy.com now has 9,000 members in the UK and members across 17 countries.
