Could you be a Cycling UK Trustee?

We have five vacancies to fill and we’re looking for people from all backgrounds with the skills to help the Cycling UK reach the next level.

Cycling UK is passionate about getting more people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds cycling, and with a large membership base our campaigning and development voice has never been louder – and now there’s a fantastic opportunity for you to shape how we move forward.

Join us as a trustee on our Board and become part of something extraordinary. We have five vacancies to fill, and we’re looking for people from all backgrounds with the skills to help the organisation reach the next level.

What Cycling UK does

This year we celebrate 140 years. Since 1878 we have offered a home to those who want to explore the world from the saddle, and stood up for the interests of everyone who wants to cycle.

We’re in our fourth year of our Big Bike Revival, with an ambitious target of getting 25,000 people back cycling, we run more than 150 community cycle clubs, reaching around 12,000 people, put on the annual Bike Week event, and are currently running the Women’s Festival of Cycling.

We support more than 1,000 groups and run more than a dozen Challenge Rides.

We’ve been working hard on securing rural access in Wales for our Trails for Wales campaign, supporting police forces tackle ‘close pass’ incidents by providing educational mats and lobbying central Government as it embarks on a review of cycle safety.

In Scotland, we’ve secured double the amount of our funding for cycling, we are enabling a more diverse and active volunteer force to help us achieve our aims.

Plus we're regularly called on by the national media to comment and provide expert advice on a whole range of cycling issues.

So you can see, there has never been a better time to be involved.

What it means to be a Trustee

We’ve strived hard to make our governance a leaner, more highly-skilled Board able to provide clear, strategic direction.

As well as a passion for cycling, Trustees must have the essential skills, knowledge and experience required of an effective charity trustee and be able to offer a specialist skill we need.

We are keen to have a diverse and inclusive Board with people coming from a wide range of backgrounds, places and perspectives, and we welcome applications from younger people, women and ethnic minorities.

Trustees are vital to our continued success and our application pack explains what we are looking for and how to find out further information.

We are specifically looking for one or more of the following skills, qualities and characteristics:

1. Income generation specifically organisational growth / commercial development/fundraising

2. Marketing – specifically membership growth and communications

3. The legal frameworks in the devolved nation which affect sustainable transport, health and wellbeing

In return for your passion, commitment and skills, we can offer you the chance to make a significant difference to cycling in the UK. We want to hear from you if you if you think you have what it takes to put our values – open, bold and enquiring – into action.

If you’d like to know more or just have an informal chat, please contact Chair of trustees Dan Howard or CEO Paul Tuohy.
