City congestion, air quality and weight-related health issues have brought to the forefront the need for alternative and sustainable travel choices. TfWM are committed to supporting and developing Walking and Cycling as attractive and practical options for getting around the West Midlands.
The development of cycling in the West Midlands to make it a normal part of everyday life is based on the Cycling Charter - a set of goals and actions agreed upon by the seven local councils (Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton) and regional partners (Canal and River Trust, CyclingUK, Highways England and Sustrans). The aim of the Charter is to increase levels of cycling from the current 1% to 5% of all trips by 2023.
We are giving more people sustainable travel options including cycle routes and storage, maintenance and safe riding courses and security marking.
