British Red Cross
British Red Cross are a Cycling UK affiliated group.
British Red Cross Refugee Support, Portsmouth is running a Bicycle Project with Cycling UK to help refugee and asylum seekers and other vulnerable groups in the local community. Our volunteers take donated or unusable cycles, refurbish and train those groups in bicycle maintenance, riding and road safety.
This helps improve their knowledge and skills, encourage exercise, improve mental health and it is a social activity for those who are lonely and isolated. The participants are given the cycle and safety equipment at the end of the training, and can use it to attend the social and life skill courses offered by the Red Cross and other organisations to re- engage with many aspects of the community.
They are currently running session at the All Saints Church including :
- Monday morning 9.30am a led cycle ride around the city
- Thursday morning 10am-12pm a bicycle maintenance workshop
