British Red Cross Portsmouth
British Red Cross are a Cycling UK affiliated group.
British Red Cross Refugee Support, Portsmouth is running a Bicycle Project with Cycling UK to help refugee and asylum seekers and other vulnerable groups in the local community. Our volunteers take roadworthy donated bicycles, educate those groups in road safety, organise events and lead bike rides.
This helps improve their knowledge and skills, encourages exercise, improves mental health and provides a social activity for those who are lonely and isolated. The participants are given the cycle and safety equipment at the end of the session, and can use it to attend the social and life skill courses offered by the Red Cross and other organisations to re-engage with many aspects of the community.
The project also aims to help these vulnerable groups gain access to transport and improve integration.
They are currently running session at the All Saints Church including :
- Monday morning 9.30am a led cycle ride around the city
- Other organised events
