Farmer Browns Ice Cream Parlour

Farmer Browns Ice Cream Parlour

Sunday 18th August 2019

The camping section having returned, it was a more traditional leisure ride that was planned for today, and a visit to Farmer Brown's Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop, near Huttoft.

Meeting up at Louth leisure Centre were Chris, Rob Whitworth, John Ambler, Alan Hockham and today's Ride Leader Tim Newbery. Rob Whitworth and Chris had ridden in to Louth, Rob's beaming smile attesting to the pleasure riding his new Giant Defy.

The Club's route would take the small winding lanes through Stewton and The Carlton's. There was enough blue sky for us to enjoy some bright summer sunshine although a brisk south west wind was noticeable and would no doubt make for a harder return back to Louth. The pleasant ride continued through Beesby and Markby and it wasn't long before we were greeted by Chris Owen who joined us for the final leg to Woodrow Farm and the Ice Cream Parlour. The establishment is now in it's 4th generation rearing and milking Holstein-Friesian dairy cows. Interesting to see 'bespoke' and surely unique ceiling lights used in the extension!

Telephoning ahead to the Railway Inn at Aby, we were informed that they were fully booked so a quick re-plan of the route and a decision was made for a short refreshment stop at Woody's Restaurant and Bar at Woodthorpe instead. The route this time through Huttoft and Thurlby, and with Alan now leading, Alford, Claythorpe (where Chris Owen departed) and Woodthorpe.

Having had the 'Giant' contingent setting a cracking pace, John would now turn up the dial for the return to Louth via the Carlton's and Stewton once more. By now heavy showers were evident but skillful navigation meant that we arrived back at the Leisure Centre completely dry. About 45 miles for the Louth contingent but probably a little over 65 miles for Rob and Chris. Many thanks to all.
