Cycling UK Stevenage Presents:

Cycling in the UK - a discussion

We are looking forward to an exciting discussion about the future of cycling in the UK.

Date and Time

7pm Saturday 25th February

Location

Springfield House, 24 High St, Stevenage SG1 3EJ

We have three national and local speakers to lead the discussion

Duncan Dollimore, Head of Campaigns, Cycling UK

  • Duncan Dollimore is head of campaigns at Cycling UK, which promotes all forms of cycling so that people all of ages can cycle safely, easily and enjoyably.
  • Duncan leads Cycling UK’s road safety campaigning, a key aspect of which is educational awareness campaigning to promote behaviour change.
  • ‘Involving, not telling' is the ethos for much of this campaigning, to communicate both the danger and solution visually using both simple and modern tools and technology.

Emily Cherry - CEO - The Bikeability Trust

  • Emily was apppointed as Chief Executive of the Bikeability Trust in 2020 on a mission to scale up Bikeability to ensure every child receives training by 2025. Before coming to Bikeability she has spent over 25 years in the children’s sector, largely at the NSPCC, but also at the Children’s Society and Barnardo’s. She has experience of running safeguarding services, policy, comms and a well-known media voice on children especially in the field of online safety. She has worked in practice in Young Offenders Institute, New Traveller sites and with children in care.
  • She is also strategic advisor to the United Nations Peace One Day campaign, Trustee of My Black Dog (peer to peer mental health charity) and Chair of the Breck Foundation (online safety education).
  • Emily lives in Cambridge with her primary teaching husband and two children. She is a keen leisure cyclist especially for family holidays.

Nick Truran - Strategic Cycling Lead and Development Manager - Hertfordshire County Council

  • I joined Hertfordshire County Council 20 years ago as a part time cycle instructor / road safety apprentice. Since then I have had 7 different roles moving through the safety, transport and highways areas of the industry. The journey has included everything from tiny events with a handful of people to large scale tour events and race series.
  • In recently months, I taken on a more strategic role where I oversee almost everything cycling related within Hertfordshire County Council working for the 1.19million residents of Hertfordshire, the exception of being the designer or builder of the infrastructure.
  • In my eyes there has never been a better time get involved in cycling and work to increase active travel throughout the county and beyond.”

Duncan will give a talk on the national picture, Nick will give a local Hertfordshire perspective and Emily will talk about the work of the Bikeability Trust and how it will encourage more to cycle
