Rough Stuff and Hard Riders- Informal and ad hoc rides

Rough Stuff on ad hoc variable days

These rides are mainly ‘off road’ using paths and tracks which are often muddy.

Not technical but require fitness, good cycle control and a suitable bike but not necessary to have an MTB.

Often car or train assisted.

This is an informal ride on which participants are expected to be self-sufficient, and is not part of the CTC Lothians and Borders Member Group programme of rides.

It is essential to let the ride leader know beforehand that you intend coming on these rides so that you are expected.

Saturday Hard Riders

This is an informal ride on which participants are expected to be self-sufficient and is not part of the CTC Lothians and Borders Member Group programme of rides.

Distance may be 60-100 miles depending on the weather and season.

These rides are at an audax speed of 10 mph (16 kph) including stops, this relies on participants being able to sustain a speed of 13 – 15 mph (21 – 24 kph) on the flat.

Although pace can be brisk, this is a social ride and the group will stop for mechanicals and regroup when required.

Most rides contain at least two cafe stops

Participants are encouraged to read the riding guidelines and be willing to ride in close group.
