Cycling UK Oxfordshire - Cycling survey, conference and Tour de Faringdon

I hope you are enjoying the summer!  We had two great rides with the 75 mile ride to Lechlade and the Cotswolds, and the combined Triennial Veterans Century and Annual Century ride.  The latter was just about full with 35 riders and although I couldn't ride the whole thing, I brought cake to the final pub stop at Stanford-in-the-Vale, which was well received.

Three things for you today.

First, a request for cyclists, regular or otherwise, to complete a survey for Oxfordshire County Council to give them inputs to support their Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs).  They are particularly interested in responses from Bicester, Didcot and Oxford - but anywhere in the county is good.  Follow this link to the survey, click 'Other ways to respond to the consultation' and proceed from there.

Second, a reminder about 'Le Tour de Farcycles' this weekend: Saturday 27th July a sociable sportive organised by our friends in Faringdon.  There are three distances on offer:

  • The Gentle Challenge - 35 miles perfect for families
  • The Full Monty - 70 miles getting a bit hillier
  • The Epic Test - 100 miles covering the Berkshire Downs before joining The Full Monty

It's an event that consistently gets good feedback for its friendly welcome, food and scenery, and proceeds go to building sustainable, healthy and inclusive transport facilities in the region.

Third, on September 7th, Cyclox and Brookes University are teaming up to host a conference “Like Riding a Bike" about getting people who used to cycle, or have never cycled, onto bikes. Speakers include Sir Muir Gray, Hugh Ward MBE, and Oxfordshire Liveable Streets will be launching the Florence Park Mini-Holland campaign with a cycle safari.  Details are on the Cyclox homepage.

Regular rides with Cycling UK groups

Regular rides continue with Cycling UK Member Groups - as a Cycling UK Member, you can join any of these.

There are also affiliated groups in Abingdon, Bicester and Faringdon.

Happy cycling!
