Rouken Glen Carden Centre (near Mannerston cafe)
Event description
Hi Everyone,
Sunday’s outing will be a moderately paced ride mainly on weel-kent cycle paths and minor roads with no major climbs.
We will meet at Slateford Viaduct (SV), opposite the Water of Leith Centre at 9.50 and depart at 10.00.
We make our way onto the canal and head out to Heriot Watt (toilet stop). From there we follow route 75 to Kirknewton and Almondale Country Park. We then rejoin the canal, exit at Philipstoun and drop into the Rouken Glen café for lunch. (23 miles)
Post lunch, it is down to Blackness, and follow route 76 through Hopetoun Estate, South Queensferry, railway path, and Dalmeny estate to Cramond Brig. (13 miles).

Sunday is Mother’s Day. Rouken Glen café is likely to be busy, but there is an outside area we could use if necessary. It might be wise however, to bring some extra food (pies!), just in case we need to arrange an impromptu picnic.
Remember also that the clocks go forward on Saturday night.
Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding
At any turns, make sure the person behind sees you. Please take note of my phone number 0750 772 7222 in case you get separated from the group.
Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.
In accordance with good riding practice you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.
While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home. Having said that hopefully no-one would be left in a situation of not knowing how to get home .
An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning. The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members . However non-members are welcome to attend, but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday,
Tom
