On Saturday morning we will depart from beneath the London Eye, passing through Richmond Park 16km further on, which makes a nice alternative start to those wanting a shorter day or avoid the hassle of going into central London. After passing through Richmond Park we join alongside the River Thames, then onto the canal and beyond the M25. Now in idyllic countryside the route follows a mix of trails, including some nice singletrack, to the North Downs, where our remote accommodation awaits us.
Accommodation & Food: We are staying at the YHA in Holmbury St Mary on Saturday night, which we have sole use of, with 2 bunks to a room and camping in the grounds. An evening meal and breakfast is also included and served on the site at/by the YHA.
There will be an optional evening/night ride for those that wish to enjoy some of the South East’s finest singletrack trails, here in the Surrey Hills. You will be required to have some good bike lights to join in, and the route will not be signed and you ride it entirely at your own risk. We will have riders out there riding though.
On Sunday we will complete the 2nd half of the ride, which although offering easier riding, will no doubt take a while to complete after the efforts of the previous day, and the draw of nice cafes, pubs and a brewery on the route.
Don’t worry about riding alone, many people are in the same boat, and even if not, cyclists are generally a friendly and sociable bunch who usually look forward to the chance of hearing some new stories and anecdotes for a change, so will welcome you warmly into their peloton.
Start: London Eye, Lambeth SE1 7PB (or Richmond Park for a shorter first day if you wish). Finish: Brighton Pier, BN2 1TW
