London to Brighton off-road @ Night
When: 12th September 2020
Stats: 100km with 1,250 metres of climbing
Start: Kempton Racecourse, London, TW16 5AQ
Finish: Brighton seafront, BN3 2WN
Terrain: A mix of dirt, gravel, tarmac, roots, sand, stone and grass. Some technical sections along the way, and three big hills, but suitable for gravel bikes.
The ride: You’ve probably heard of the L2BOR event, which we run with the British Heart Foundation every September. Well now we've just upped the ante; tweaked the route and are tackling it through the night! This is not a race – it’s a social ride and adventure, a bit of fun and challenge to enjoy with like-minded riders.
You’ll set off from London in the twilight hours, before weaving along the silent single track and gliding through the dark countryside, before arriving on the hilltop above Brighton. Here you’ll witness the magical moment the sun starts to rise from the sea, before plummeting down the last, fast and fun descent, to the seafront where you’ll celebrate your adventure with breakfast by the beach.
What’s included: Signed route, gpx, pdf route map, support riders, sweep vehicle (with tools and a few spares), bag transfer, checkpoints along the route with complimentary drinks and food (including the all-important coffee).
What’s not included: Breakfast at the end, a lift back to the start, although the trains allow bicycles, and we will be laying on some lifts back to Kempton Park, London with a minibus with bike trailer, on a first-come-first-served basis, for £25pp (and bike). E-mail email@example.com to book.
NOTE: Riders should be experienced and comfortable, especially with riding at night, have suitable lights, have a well serviced, suitable bike, clothing, equipment and back-up lights. Sunset is at 9.18pm and sunrise at 4.42am, so plan for having up to 8hrs of light/battery available.
