Gifford

Event ride

Event description

Dear All
The destination for the ride on 3rd of April is Gifford.
Meet at Fisherrow Harbour at 9.50 a.m. for a 10.00 am departure.
The length of the ride is 55 miles. This is the first Scottish summer ride of the season so come prepared for 4 seasons in one day. At the moment it looks like a northerly wind with rain showers in the morning.
We will depart along the coast for a toilet stop at Port Seaton. Then onward via Bangley brae to Athelstaneford, East Linton, past Hailes Castle then around Haddington to Bolton and Gifford where we will have our picnic in the park in glorious sunshine.(6c)

After lunch we head to Longyester, westward along the northern edge of Lammer Law to Humbie, past Glenkinchie distillery and pick up the railway path to the Yew Tree café at Ormiston where there is a coffee and cake offer at £2.95. After coffee back to Fisherrow via Whitecraig.

Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding
At any turns, make sure the person behind sees you. Please take note of my phone number 07584 558928 in case you get separated from the group.

Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and tools.

In accordance with good riding practice you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.
While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home. Hopefully no-one would be left in a situation of not knowing how to get home .

An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning. The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members. However non-members are welcome to attend, but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Kind Regards

Brian
