Falkirk Wheel

Group ride

Event description

This Wednesday’s ride starts at Miller and Carter at Cramond Brig and proceeds to Burnshot and then the road to Kirkliston (possible toilet stop), Winchburgh and Linlithgow. From Linlithgow Bridge (toilet stop at Sainsbury’s) we cycle on the minor road to Whitecross and Maddiston, a right and left to California and along to Shieldhill dropping down past Glen Farm over the canal to the roundabout where we turn left and jink about with rights and lefts, cross the canal again and thence The Falkirk Wheel where there is shelter, toilets and a café. We will have lunch here. 40K

After lunch we head for the Clackmannanshire Bridge via Stenhousemuir and thence to Clackmannan where we pick up the rail path towards Dunfermline and exit this at the Carnock junction for coffee and cake at Fairley's Garden Centre & Coffee Shop in Cairneyhill. From there on to Crossford and a right turn at the lights and on to the A985 for a short stretch, then second right into Rosyth, the Forth Road Bridge, Dalmeny and return to Cramond Brig where the ride ends. 60K

In total 100K and about 700m of climb most of which is in the morning.
