East Linton

Group ride

Event description

Meet at Fisherrow Harbour (info here - Our starting points) for a 10am departure.

This run takes us to East Linton for lunch at the community hall, 24 miles out and 20 return, per the route that Brian kindly plotted when I took over the run due to his hospital appointment.  He also produced this mapometer link  https://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_4994752.html  As you are aware, you don’t normally get such a link from me (for various reasons) so don’t rely on being provided with one on next week’s run which I shall also be leading. I will however be experimenting with the great god Garmin this week, so you never know, you might be lucky.

As a guide, we will proceed upriver past the Battle of Pinkie site then climbing (dinnae blame me!) by Fa’side Castle. I am prepared to pause the run here if anyone wants to arrange a viewing of this country property, currently on the market at £1.9 million. Onward from there we will stop briefly at Tranent for the usual then go by Winton, Boggs Holdings, skirting Haddington then passing Hailes Castle to East Linton..

Return takes us north out of East Linton then we swing round through Athelstaneford taking the well used route to the railway crossing at St Germains. At this point we may diverge from the mapometer trace and achieve the coast road by taking the path round the golf course, which spits us out at the east end of Port Seton. The road will then be followed to Musselburgh and a cafe suitable for our numbers. I don’t think we were responsible for the closure of the cafe at the Tolbooth only days after we enjoyed coffee there but it is, once again, shut.

Everyone is very welcome to attend but, for riders new to the group, our riding guidelines on the following link are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.

https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding  You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group - 079348 40556and for new riders, I will collect your details prior to the ride.  If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email icectc.lb@gmail.com with your details and a contact number so that we will have these availablein case of emergency.

Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have two spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube.  You will need to have water, packed lunch, money for coffee, a bike lock and lights.  Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.

Cheers

Peter
