Going the Extra Mile: Cycling UK's Volunteer Celebration 2019
Going the Extra Mile: our Volunteer Celebration 2019
Cycling UK's volunteers are amazing - they put on group rides and events, campaign for better facilities for cycling, inspire and encourage individuals to cycle more and much else besides. We couldn't do our work without them.
Going the Extra Mile - our new reward and recognition programme - recognises and rewards the time, energy and effort put in by these volunteers. Members and supporters of Cycling UK have nominated the volunteers, groups, campaigns, events and programmes they feel most deserve a pat on the back for their contribution to our mission to enable millions more people to cycle. After nominations close on Monday 8 April, a shortlist of the top three in each of the ten categories will be chosen by a panel of staff and volunteers.
Our Volunteer Celebration on Saturday 15 June in London will be a chance to thank them and showcase the incredible they work they do on behalf of cycling, and the winners will receive their awards then.
Speakers and workshops
We are delighted that these awards will be presented by Cycling UK member and Guinness World Record holderJenny Graham, who last year rode around the world in an incredible 124 days. Jenny will be giving a short talk about her achievement during the celebration and there will be a chance to ask her questions about her amazing feat.
There will also be the chance to participate in a variety of workshops during the day hosted by volunteers and staff looking at how to inspire and enable more people cycle.
Refreshments and a ride
Of course, cyclists need food so there will be tea, coffee, and a delicious buffet lunch on offer as well as tea and cake in the afternoon. We know cyclists love the outdoors so these refreshments will be served outside on the roof terrace of the Coin Street Conference Centre, weather permitting.
Finally, there will be the chance to take part in an interesting ride along the historic South Bank of the Thames on National Cycle Network route 4 to round off a fabulous day of celebrations.
Cycling UK's AGM 2019
Alternatively, you may wish to attend Cycling UK's AGM, which starts at 4pm at the same venue. Note that you must be a full member of Cycling UK and bring your membership card with you to attend and take part in the AGM.
