Wyre Wheels Fleetwood
Wyre Wheels Fleetwood
Wyre Wheels Fleetwood offer inclusive cycling sessions at the YMCA Leisure Centre for people with a wide range of disabilities and anyone who enjoys cycling whatever their age, ability or needs. The centre provides adapted bikes to suit most needs, please see CTCs guide to adapted cycles for more information.
Wyre Wheels Fleetwood are affiliated to CTC. They were established with the support of Cycling Project through the Wheels for All Programme. The centre has been running since 2011 and is managed and operated by the Sports Development Team at Wyre Council.
The centre works in partnership with the Fylde Bike It!
The centre is located directly on the coastline, with access to an accessible pathway at the Fleetwood YMCA Leisure Centre. They run other activities for adults and children with disabilities like Judo and Swimming. Take a look at their programme.
The centre is on the look out to expand and run inclusive cycling sessions at other locations around Fleetwood. This could be indoors or outdoors, it would need to be traffic free, a place that is inexpensive or free to use, and would need to be a large safe enclosed space (like an athletics track, a closed car park, etc.) where participants can cycle in safety. If you can help please contact the centre.
- Sessions are held indoors, in a sports hall with a smooth wooden floor.
- Before visiting for the first time it is advised to contact them, to let them know your details.
- Otherwise sessions are organised around a 'drop-in and stay as long as you want' basis.
- The centres adapted range includes several trikes, a quad, 2 wheelchair transporters, hand cycles, low riders and side by side tandems.
- Sessional staff are happy to discuss your needs and match you with a suitable cycle, but you can change bikes as often as you like!
