Bury Employment Support and Training ( Bury EST)
Working in partnership with the Council's Parks and Countryside Service, we have taken over the management of the Manchester Road Park bowling facility in Bury. We have expanded on current provision by redeveloping the area to include a community café in conjunction with successfully operating of the bowling facility. By looking to develop additional activities and opportunities, we will improve the confidence, self esteem, health and independence of disabled and disadvantaged funded local residents; at the same time increase volunteering opportunities and develop community involvement for everyone using the park. Our “Welly” café opened to the general public at the end of August 2014 and we are now looking to up-skill our customers through qualifications and on the job training, to increase their independence and maximise their chances of meaningful employment.
Stage 2 of our “Welly” project was to convert the outbuildings on site into training and practice rooms together with looking to reconfigure the entrance to the café to the back to utilise space and create a patio area and expand on facilities on offer, which includes a cycle Centre and cycle maintenance hub. The Cycle hub opened in 2015 and with trained mechanics we operate a bike donation recycling repair and maintenance hub which we operate on site.
