Cycling 4 Health - Swindon Sports Development & Partnerships
Cycling 4 Health - Swindon Sports Development & Partnerships
Swindon Sports Development & Partnerships offer inclusive cycling sessions under their Cycling 4 Health programme. They welcome people over 16 year olds, cater for a wide range of abilities and have many adapted cycles to choose from. Please see CTCs guide to adapted cycles for more information on adapted bikes.
The centre is affiliated to CTC and funded by Big Lottery Funding. With the help of CTC cycle champions and officers, Swindon Borough Councils Leisure Services and Big Lottery Funding, adapted bikes were purchased and a launch held on 23rd February 2010, to promote the availability of inclusive cycling and encourage regular sessions. The launch day lasted for a total of six hours and as part of cycling around the track on this day, money was raised for Barnardos Charity too.
Inclusive sessions run under the Cycling 4 Health programme, run by the Swindon borough councils, Sports Development and Health Improvement team. They form part of Disability Sport in Swindon group and run under their Health programme. Please visit their website for more information on sports activities for people with disabilities and to read about the health benefits of cycling.
- Sessions are held on the County Ground Athletics track, a smooth surface for riders.
- The centre caters for people from 16 years and above.
- Under 16s can attend sessions on prior arrangement.
- They have a good fleet of adapted cycles to choose from and these include a twister, a side by side tandem, a hand bike, trikes, a pedal propelled quad bike, a recumbent trike and a wheelchair platform carrier.
