Shetland Community Bike Project
Shetland Community Bike Project
Cycling is the most energy-efficient form of travel there is. It is also good fun and exercise for all ages. In our community each year many bicycles are put to the tip or left out in the weather to rust. We collect and are given many bikes of all sizes and ages which we rebuild or dismantle for parts. These are then sold to raise funds for the continuation of the project, giving people access to cheap, quality bikes
The bike project is set up for the whole community and is coordinated by Caroline Adamson, with help from the clients of Shetland Alcohol Support Services, the Mental Health Department, Shetland Link Up and the Community Drugs Project. Also with help from Volunteers and the Committee.
We renovate, repair and sell bicycles.
We provide cycle maintenance and repair classes to School Groups and Youth Clubs.
We teach proficiency training to groups to encourage road safety.
We encourage fitness in all ages
