Ken Roberts - Certificate of Merit

Ken has been a CTC member for over 25 years and has served on the Huddersfield & District committee for much of that time.

For the last 14 years he has been our hard working secretary but stood down from the committee at our AGM in October 2014.

Ken joined the CTC on 15 March 1989. Nine years later he became the Cycling Development Officer for the Huddersfield section. He soon started to share his enthusiasm for cycling; promoting and organising rides with local schools, as well as sending a welcoming letter and a list of runs to all new CTC members in the District. Ken started the monthly Saturday Easy Rides to appeal to cyclists who may otherwise be reluctant to try riding with a group. Years later our "easy rides" continue to attract new riders.

In 2001 Ken took up the position of Secretary and Registrar. In this capacity he took on many duties, including runs list compilation, ride attendance recording, social function organiser, fund raiser, club shirt design and sales as well as the traditional role of meeting facilitator and minute taker. He has developed strong links with the West Yorkshire DA, local cycle campaigning groups, the Huddersfield news media and our town council.

Ken is an extremely competent ride leader, a trained Kirklees Countryside Leader and Sustrans Ranger. His Saturday and Sunday runs are always particularly well attended, as cyclists know they will have an excellent and safe ride. He has also organised and led many club hostel tours and holidays.

We owe Ken huge thanks for the success our member group has enjoyed in the last sixteen years and will miss his leadership on the committee. However we will continue to enjoy his friendship, wisdom and wit on the road as we pedal along.
