Andy and Valerie Hurrell - Certificate of Merit

On joining the CTC and Norfolk DA in 1976 Andy immediately was very active in all aspects of the D.A. from Club rides, Y.H.A weekends, special events and excelling at the British Cycle Tourist competition and riding in the finals to win trophies.

He very quickly progressed to become a willing, reliable and innovative rides leader and organiser of special events. He enjoyed the competitiveness of time trailing with our successful offshoot the Norfolk Road Club and was involved in the running of the section until its demise.

Andy soon became an almost permanent committee member of the D.A. until 2006, always ready to take on work and representation of the CTC with other clubs and organisations, serving as secretary for two years and as a vice President for many years and President for 3 years.

Valerie joined the CTC in 1974 riding with the Devon D.A. until she moved to Norfolk away from the hills she loved, but continued to enjoy touring and racing.

Val and Andy married in 1984, always proud and enthusiastic cyclists and CTC members when their daughter Emma was born in 1989 she was a CTC member at 3 days old. Four months later that year Andy organised the British Cycle Tourist Competition Final in Norfolk based at Sheringham.

As a family all three have continued to support the CTC and cycling at every opportunity locally and nationally enjoying Birthday Rides and York Rally every year.

Val was a committee member for several years and president for three. She undertook the job of social secretary for 12 years giving a varied and profitable clubroom programme, encouraging other clubs to join us. She can always be relied on to bake cakes when events require refreshments. Her baked potatoes, soup and cheese evenings are always popular.

All the Hurrell's have served Norfolk DA well and it's guaranteed where ever they are cycling the CTC will have a high priority.
