Peter Crofts - Certificate of Merit

Peter joined the CTC in 1956 becoming a Life Member before he was 20.

He is a born organiser and leader, lead his first foreign tour before he was out of his teens and is now the CTC's longest serving Tour leader having organised 99 overseas tours.

He joined a local Youth Club when he was 12 and within a short time was organising youth hostel weekends, then week-long tours and by the time he was 16 he had taken his first foreign tour. At 17 he became a member of the CTC. Headquarters heard of his organising ability and in the late 50's he was asked to take his first official CTC tour; although he continued to organise local tours for young members of his CTC Section and the Southborough Wheelers

In 1986 Peter 'left' mainland Europe and toured Morocco. That tour heralded a new era of ground breaking tours to more adventurous destinations – India, Asia, South America, China etc.  He helped set up CTC Cycling Holidays, was one of its first Directors and continues to advise tour leaders.

Peter was Secretary of the East Surrey DA for a number of years and in 1985 he organised the social programme for the Birthday Rides based in Tunbridge Wells. He frequently gives illustrated talks to CTC groups and non cyclists.

He rides regularly with Shrewsbury Section and in his spare time still averages between 150 and 200 miles a week.
