Keith Matthews - Certificate of Merit

CTC awards this Certificate of Merit to Keith Matthews in recognition of his work for CTC at a local and national level.

Keith joined the CTC Bournemouth section of the Wessex DA in 1976 and in that same year he was elected to the Bournemouth Section committee and as a delegate to the Wessex DA committee.  In 1977 Keith proposed that Wessex should organise a 200km Audax event and in 1978 the Dorset Coast was born with sixty nine entrants.  In 1978 started the Bournemouth section newsletter, he was the editor for twelve years and is now, once more, the editor.  He has also submitted several contributions to different cycling journals as well as local newspapers, radio and television promoting cycling and the DA.

Amongst Keith’s cycling achievements are, as well as an extensive amount of cycling in Europe, riding Paris Brest Paris, a 1200km Audax event he rode in 1979.  His reward was to be elected to the position of DA Secretary, a post he still holds today.  The following year there was a vacancy for Division G Councillor, Keith was nominated and duly elected.  During his first year on Council Keith wrote a proposal paper on AUK which resulted in the formation of the National 400km, the first of which was held in 1981 starting at Charterhouse School in Godalming.
