This first aid certificate is valid for three years.

Key content


This one-day course covers typical incidents and injuries sustained by cyclists and mountain bikers, and provides scenarios to help you manage emergencies. It is ideally suited to general riders and club members, as well as those working in ambulance and landline phone accessible environments, such as holders of Group Leader, Ride Manager, Club Ride Leader and MTB Leader.

This course follows the Explorer Medicine syllabus and exceeds the EFAW  guidelines.

This is a one-day basic course designed to give the individual a grounding in wilderness medicine.

This course exceeds the recommendations for the HSE-recognised Emergency First Aid at Work.

  • Course introduction and administration
  • Aims and responsibilities of the first responder
  • Priorities of treatment
  • Primary and secondary assessment
  • Adult resuscitation
  • Airway obstruction
  • Burns
  • Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Basic wilderness fractures
  • Extremes of temperature
  • Asthma
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Scenarios (cycling-based scenarios)
