Singing and cycling go together in Leicester
The Emmanu-EL Apostolic Gospel Choir in Leicester is made up largely of recent African and Caribbean refugees.
“The choir specifically supports people trying to get out of poverty-related crime, and they approached me about their needs for getting about,” explains Elizabeth Barner, Cycling Development Officer in Leicester. “We’ve equipped them with bikes, child seats, and lights.”
The choir recently took cycling in a new direction. They spent a day raising funds for the Special Olympics, by cycling into the city centre - singing all the way!

The chior's leader, Pastor Samuel, plus another member, has undertaken cycle instructor training. Their ‘pay-back’ for being funded on the course is that they will teach cycling skills in the community where they live.
