Tutu Foundation UK Bike Club: Ubuntu Cycle Training in Peckham

Ever heard of Ubuntu cycle training? You have now...

TheTutu Foundation UK Bike Club has been running Ubuntu Cycle training sessions for students at the Harris Academy in Peckham.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu says:

I am, because you are. How I behave impacts not only on me but also others around me because we all belong together. So a person with ubuntu is generous, thoughtful and respectful towards others, appreciating the differences that together make us greater than the sum of our parts!

The Tutu Foundation UK Bike Club uses classroom sessions to explore how conflict can be resolved and how the way in which the members cycle can help them to be more respectful towards others using ubuntu principals.

They then put these lessons into practice, through Bikeability training sessions, and when out riding their bikes in real situations on the road.

Bike Club Leader, and Director of Learning at Harris Academy, Denzil Faure says:

The training has been a great experience for these students and will give them tools  to avoid conflict and deal with difficult situations in their daily lives using the ubuntu approach they have explored.

The young people really enjoyed their sessions and said thanks to Bike Club for their grant!
