Four Feathers Bike Club Gets off to a Flying Start!

Four Feathers Bike Club Gets off to a Flying Start!

The Four Feathers Bike Club Launch of 26 July, held at the Four Feathers Youth and Community Centre in Westminster was a roaring success...

Lots of young people came along with bikes in need of some TLC (tender loving care). They got some hands-on experience in  fixing them, guided by the team of skilled bike mechanics and Bike Club Leaders and volunteers who helped out at the session.

12 bikes were made safe to ride at this session alone. The Bike Club grant is being used to get the equipment needed for the maintainance sessions and to help the young people ride their bikes safely. The Bike Club are also going to use their artistic talents to decorate their indoor BMX skate park, which can be used, no matter what the weather.

Problems with the bikes varied greatly: from mending  punctures, changing worn out tyres for new ones,  replacing faulty brake cablessaddle, handlebar and gear adjustments, to more tricky jobs such as sorting out buckled wheels and wobbly bottom brackets.

The Bike Club members were treated to tasty snacks cooked on the premises by the Youth Work support team

The young people who came along had a really enjoyable evening, they were able to fix their bikes and socialise. They left with  safe, and roadworthy bicycles, and are now ready for some Bikeability training and will be able to  take part in led rides on the road, which are part of the Four Feathers Bike Club planned activities.
