Sharon Merredew is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2018 list for taking the initiative and organising her own local rides when she couldn’t find any to join.

Sharon is a Breeze Champion in the Southampton area and has recently taken over the role of Area Coordinator for Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. She does all of this alongside a fulltime job as a science teacher.

Sharon says, “I trained as a Breeze champion as I had been on a couple of rides and loved them, but found that there were never rides available in my area when I was free at evenings and weekends. I figured I wouldn’t be the only lady searching for rides at those times so I trained up.

“I lead weekly rides myself and over the last few years have seen many of my regulars’ train to become active champions themselves.

“I have been supporting these local champions since they started and having been given the role of Area Coordinator, I now support over 100 champions in our area.

“I love helping women to find their passion for cycling and become more confident in their cycle ability.”

Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling is an annual list celebrating inspirational women who are encouraging others to take part in this wonderful and life-enhancing activity.
