Helen Matravers enjoys time out on her mountain bike
Helen Matravers is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2018 list for leading a popular women’s mountain biking group, in spite of a major injury

Helen Matravers leads the Dame Cycling group of women mountain bike riders at The Forest of Dean, a grassroots group that meets twice a week. Her encouraging, happy and supportive attitude makes everyone of all ages and abilities feel welcome. Her passion is contagious and the rides are always so much fun.

Helen is particularly good at supporting ladies who are having a hard time and are struggling to get back into mountain biking after injury or some time away. Helen herself has overcome a major injury, having broken her neck in a cycling accident. As well as organising two free rides every week, Helen also promotes other women's rides, races and events via the popular Dame Cycling Facebook page.

A member of Dame Cycling commented: "Nothing beats flying down a trail with Helen and her whooping … [she] does everything possible to get everyone else out and enjoying themselves."
