Amy Hickman is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2018 list for being a positive role model for cycle commuting and beyond.

Amy has been cycling her whole life, with mountain biking being her primary passion for the last 15 years. She also dabbles in racing, with one her favourites being 10 @ Kirroughtree. She also a member of Hervelo, a cycling club for women in Edinburgh with a focus on sociable rides.

But it’s Amy’s commitment to cycling commuting that’s seriously impressive; she travels from Fife in and out of Edinburgh, a round trip of about 40 miles - whatever the Scottish weather has to throw at her. Better yet, she’s inspired colleagues to get in the saddle too and include a bike in their commute or even just be more active in their daily routine.

Nothing beats getting out into the hills and having the freedom to go wherever you want on your bike.

Amy says, “Mountain biking can be sociable, going on adventures with friends and something to enjoy on your own! Nothing beats getting out into the hills and having the freedom to go wherever you want on your bike.

“When it comes to commuting, after a day in the office I look forward to my cycle home and to leave the stresses of work at the office.”

Amy’s colleague told us, “Amy has been inspirational to me as an active daily cycle commuter. I now cycle part of my journey to the train, thanks to Amy.  Her energy levels are infectious and she exudes all the good stuff that cycling brings, including having some thinking time on the way to and from work.”

Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling is an annual list celebrating inspirational women who are encouraging others to take part in this wonderful and life-enhancing activity.
