CTC Campaigning Achievement of the Year - Gordon Selway Award - Sue Coles

Sue Coles is a CTC Local Campaigner who gets results. She sucessfully protected a cycle path that was due to be removed and works hard making sure her local councils in Hampshire listen to cyclists.

For many years, Sue has championed cycling in South Hampshire.  She has managed a comprehensive programme of CTC rides on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.  One event – the Watership Down ride – has become famous nationally.  She has maintained good relations with groups both within and outside CTC, for example Velo Club Venta.

In campaigning, Sue has been an active CTC Local Cycle Campaigner, frequently contributing to the online forum. She maintains close links with officers and Members of Winchester City and Hampshire County Councils.

In countryside affairs, Sue has taken part in the Hampshire Access Forum, and served as its Chair.  She is regarded, not least by local government staff, as an authority on Rights of Way issues.

2013 has been especially busy for Sue.  Largely due to her efforts, the cycling path through M3 Junction 9 has survived threats to its viability.  Meanwhile, she played a crucial leading role in the friendly division of CTC South Hampshire into Winchester CTC and Southampton and Romsey CTC.

Sue Coles is determined and persistent in her cycle campaigning and makes her points very effectively, both in writing and verbally.
