I have represented the East of England since 2001 and have lived and been active in the area throughout that time.  I am a “Right to Ride” representative, secretary of my local Cycling UK group, launched the "Stevenage Start of Summertime Specials" and currently organise popular events such as "Emitremmus" and the Circular Cycle.

I enjoy cycling.  The Wednesday evening rides from Stevenage have been very popular this summer - the group were awarded “voluntary cycling group of the year at the national dinner in May - I make no apology for that enthusiasm and wanting to encourage others to get involved throughout the region.

Cycling UK’s role as a "Cycle Transport Campaign" is vital. We are a representative organisation – cyclists working for cyclists.

This is an exciting time to be a Trustee:

  • I am delighted that 88% of those who took part in the vote supported the proposal to pull Cycling UK back into one organisation and register it as a member led charity.  The benefits will be significant and include more straightforward accountability to you.  Good progress has been made with the process since the AGM.
  • During my time as a Trustee, membership has increased from about 37,000 to nearly 70,000.
  • Since I became member group champion a year ago the resources available to local groups have more than doubled and Cycling UK is now working hard to resolve other issues and give groups the support they deserve
  • We now have a fit for purpose national office for the UK’s leading cyclists’ organisation – Cycling UK
  • The abolition of Cycling England was a mistake but I have played a role in trying to get at least some resources for our region through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund.

Cycling UK will always need to balance its campaign, organised cycling and service activities. I believe I have made a significant contribution over the last few years, that I have more to give and hope you will support me this time.
