The YHA celebrates Bike Week 2015 in style

It’s Bike Week and YHA are really celebrating this year after the charity’s big commitment over the last few months to promoting cycling throughout England and Wales. So we thought we would ask them to write us a blog piece about why Bike Week means so much to them ...

This year, Bike Week has a strong focus on encouraging more of the population to cycle to work and the YHA has shown its support for the cause in a number of ways.

The charity has always understood that cycling is a great way to travel, whether it’s for fun, to explore the outdoors or to replace a boring commute, and, over the years, cyclists across England and Wales have benefited from a number of the YHA’s cycle friendly projects and initiatives. This year, the YHA has decided to invest a grand total of £269,500 in bringing their existing cycling facilities bang up to date, and has really pushed the boat out to ensure more people can safely take to the roads on two wheels.

From cycle repair and maintenance stations for putting your bike back together after a tough, to secure lockers and bike sheds to help keep bikes safe and sound overnight, the YHA has significantly enhanced its hostels to accommodate the needs of all kinds of cyclists.

The charity is also expecting to announce a second phase of its cycling project later on this year, and will be working closely with cycling partners to help spread the word and get more people on their bikes.

So, to celebrate Bike Week 2015 and its new cycling investment project, the YHA has put together a brand new interactive Beginner’s Guide to Cycling Maintenance to ensure amateur cyclists and commuters have some basic safety tips and mechanical knowledge before they hit the busy roads.  It covers everything from adjusting handlebars to repairing a puncture and you can check it out here.

Did anyone at CTC read the YHA's maintenance guide before publishing the link in the final paragraph?
