Chair's Toolkit

What does the Chair of a cycling group do? The duties are not onerous but can ensure the group runs smoothly and fairly.

What are the main tasks of a cycling group Chair?

The duties of a Chair may include:

  • presiding at each meeting of the group's Committee and at the Annual General Meeting;
  • facilitating the efficient and correct conduct of the meeting in accordance with the group's constitution (or the Policy Handbook for Cycling UK Member Groups);
  • deputising for the group's Secretary

Note: Some groups use the term President for the role of Chair. This is acceptable but a distinction should be made between a President acting as Chair and a President appointed for purely honorary/symbolic purposes who has no formal duties.
