Government letting unsafe drivers “off the hook”
CTC, the national cycling charity, expressed concern that the Government’s new Road Safety Statement issued yesterday (21 December) effectively lets unsafe drivers “off the hook”.

Swale CTC are having a swell Christmas time!
Swale CTC made the most of the unseasonably weather this week on its annual Christmas Ride yesterday along the north Kent coast. A record 23 riders, many of whom were dressed in festive outfits, attended. Group member Miriam was inspired by the event to write a poem to celebrate.

Curfew in 'seven second' cyclist's death by careless driving case
Driver Derek Edward Chenney has been sentenced to a curfew order and a two year driving disqualification after admitting to causing the death of head teacher Paul Miller by careless driving. Chenney drove into the illuminated cyclist, having failed to see him for seven seconds. But why was he charged with 'careless' rather than 'dangerous' driving?

CTC calls for safer Oxford cycle crossing
Nearly 700 cyclists have signed a petition spearheaded by CTC Councillor Graham Smith calling for Oxfordshire County Council to redesign a “potentially lethal” crossing facility for bikes in Oxford.

“PM’s ‘Cycling Revolution’ punctured by Osborne”
Chancellor George Osborne today announced in his Autumn Statement that just £300m will be available for cycling over duration of this Parliament. At just £60m per year, this is a staggering 58% cut compared with the current year's projected spending of £142m.

CTC: Get tough on dodgy drivers and lorry operators
CTC has urged MPs to support increased resources for roads policing to improve safety for all road users. CTC’s Policy Director Roger Geffen told the Commons Transport Select Committee that cycle use has grown slowly but steadily since the late 1990s, but the risk per mile of a serious cycling injury started to increase from 2008.

HGV operator loses licence after cyclists' deaths
Traffic Commissioner Sarah Bell has revoked the HGV operator's licence for Frys Logistics Limited, saying it put profit before the law with a lack of regard to the rules which contributed to the death of End-to-End cyclists Andrew McMenigall and Toby Wallace 28 months ago.

Driver pleads guilty to causing John Radford's death
The family of former CTC Councillor John Radford are one step closer on the road to justice after Michael Gledhill pleaded guilty to causing his death by dangerous driving. Sentence has been adjourned to January 2016, 30 months on from the road rage incident.
