Tribute Ride success is a Billie bonus
More women look sure to be cycling this year – thanks to a legend who set a world record way back in 1938. CTC members were among the hundreds of women who took to their bikes throughout 2015 in memory of Billie Fleming, who rode the greatest distance ever cycled by a female 78 years ago.

Road rage driver jailed for John Radford's death
Michael Gledhill has been jailed for four years and eight months and disqualified from driving for four years for causing the death of former CTC Councillor John Radford by dangerous driving – a sentence that comes 30 months after the road rage incident that claimed the cyclist’s life.

Failure to fill pothole leads to cyclist's death
Following the death of a cyclist who hit a water filled pothole and was thrown into the path of an oncoming car, Warwickshire County Council face questions as to why they allegedly postponed planned resurface works. Surely the decision wasn't because of xmas tree sales?

Drivers need better training and testing on cyclists' needs, says CTC
CTC has told the Government that the system for training and testing drivers needs to boost their understanding of cyclists and how to share the roads with them safely and considerately - and that including cycle training as part of the process would help achieve this. We've also called for the licensing process to toughen up on bad driving.

On New Year's Day 2015, Steve Abraham embarked on a bike ride. It wasn’t one of those 1st January outings to clear a hazy Hogmanay head, the type of excursion one or two of us might have tried a few days ago to see in 2016, but the start of a single-minded mission to break the world record for the furthest distance cycled in one year.

CTC in bike donation appeal after 'callous' theft
CTC is appealing for people to donate children’s bikes after heartless thieves stole 12 cycles used for popular after-school sessions in Reading. The bikes were taken during a break-in at Palmer Park Sports Stadium during the early hours of Tuesday 15 December.

‘Policy’ prevents prosecution of Frys for charity cyclists’ deaths
Two cyclists were killed by a HGV driver falling asleep at the wheel. His employer regularly sent him out to drive exhausted after working double shifts. The Health and Safety Executive has declined to prosecute the employer because this does not fit its ‘policy’ and ‘another authority’ could do so - The Prosecutors' Policy that lets Frys Limited go free.

CTC Fylde Bicycle Belles celebrate ten years of friendship and fun
Nearly a decade ago, an item appeared in the CTC magazine asking for members to run special events to encourage women to cycle. 'Five Miles to Fabulous' was the name of the initiative and two women were inspired enough by it to organise a ride for their female friends.

Swale CTC are having a swell Christmas time!
Swale CTC made the most of the unseasonably weather this week on its annual Christmas Ride yesterday along the north Kent coast. A record 23 riders, many of whom were dressed in festive outfits, attended. Group member Miriam was inspired by the event to write a poem to celebrate.
