Inclusive Cycling for children at Surrey Supercycle

This year, the 2nd annual Surrey Supercycle is due to be even bigger and better and will take place on Sunday 14th July from 10:00am until 3:00pm at Dunsfold Park, Cranleigh.

The Community Games event will be staged by the Surrey Consortium of Play and Leisure providers giving children with disabilities the opportunity to cycle.Leading disability charities across the county are teaming up in a joint attempt to encourage children, young people and families to get cycling, get fit and have fun.  Surrey Supercycle will also raise vital funds for charities that provide play and leisure short breaks for children and young people with disabilities and their families. 

CTC's partner Cycling Projects (who run the Wheels for All prgramme) will be providing a range of specially adapted cycles, including three-wheelers, tandems, trikes and hand powered bikes of all shapes and sizes, so that children, young people and adults with disabilities can take to the track and feel the wind in their hair.  Bikes, helmets and experienced support are all available completely free of charge.  Cyclists are also welcome to bring their own bicycles.

The Surrey Supercycle is the only event of its kind, for children and young people with disabilities, their brothers and sisters, parents and ALL family members.   As the Tour de France gets into top gear Surrey Supercycle is encouraging participants of all ages and abilities to choose one of three routes around this famous track.  These are suitable for experienced cyclists or complete beginners, covering distances from 100 metres to 100km.  There will be chip timing available for serious cyclist wishing to challenge themselves or their friends.  All registered cyclists will receive a certificate, goody bag and Medal. There will also be a range of other fun activities on the day including bouncy castles, special guests and refreshments making it the perfect family day out.

Surrey Consortium of Play and Leisure providers is a group of charities working together to provide fun activities for young people and short breaks for their families. Together they support over 1000 families from all across Surrey with playschemes, youth groups, buddying schemes and Saturday clubs. The charities are Barnados, Crossroads Care Surrey, The Children’s Trust, Disability Challengers, Jigsaw, Halow, Link Leisure, Reigate and Redhill YMCA, United Response and White Lodge.  

Register on-line at www.surreysupercycle.org.uk prior to the event for just £5 per cyclist with free entry for family, friends and supporters.
