Scotland doubles annual funding for cycling and walking to £80m

Cycling UK today (Tuesday, 05 September) welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement to double the annual level of funding for active travel (cycling and walking), by £40m, bringing the total to £80m.

Now in its second year in Scotland, the Big Bike Revival will help even more people to bring their bikes back into use by providing bike health checks, sharing maintenance know-how and giving people more confidence in the saddle.

Cycling UK is pleased to announce the launch of the Big Bike Revival in England and Scotland. The Big Bike Revival is an award-winning programme developed by Cycling UK designed to encourage thousands of people to cycle for leisure and every day journeys. Now in its second year in Scotland and its fourth in England, the Big Bike Revival helps people to bring their bikes back into use by providing bike health checks, sharing maintenance knowhow and giving people more confidence in the saddle.

While most mothers enjoyed flowers, chocolate and breakfast in bed this Mothers’ Day, some cycling mums ditched the pampering to campaign instead for better walking and cycling provision for families across Scotland. On Sunday they took to the paths of Edinburgh to launch the local election campaign We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote.
