THINK before you blame the victim
'Hang Back' from lorries is this morning's message from the DfT to cyclists. No mention on safer direct vision lorries, better infrastructure, driver responsibility or lorry restrictions. Just a message to cyclists about what they need to do to avoid being killed. Oh dear - perhaps the DfT should have looked and listened first.

Mayor promises autumn plan for safer lorries
As Mayor Sadiq Khan commits to quickly increase the number of direct vision lorries in London and promises a plan to do so by this Autumn, the momentum to move to safer lorries, protect pedestrians and save cyclists' lives is growing, but needs to be a national not London-centric initiative.

Cycling UK urges Government to implement MPs’ road laws report
Cycling UK, the national cycling charity, has urged the Government to say it will fully implement the recommendations of a Commons Committee report on “Road traffic law enforcement”, saying this could have huge benefits for the safety of everyone who uses our roads, particularly the most vulnerable.

Sian signs up to Cycling UK’s direct vision roadmap
Green Party Mayoral candidate for London Sian Berry has now joined Liberal Democrat hopeful Caroline Pidgeon in supporting Cycling UK's proposed 'roadmap' to direct vision safer lorries. With Labour candidate Sadiq Khan pledging in his manifesto to promote direct vision lorries, only Zac Goldsmith from the four main parties has yet to commit. Mayoral candidate supports CTC's safer lorry roadmap
Liberal Democrat candidate for London Mayor, Caroline Pidgeon, has confirmed her support for CTC's call for a ban on all lorries that do not meet direct vision standard by 2025, and our proposed 'roadmap' to direct vision safer lorries.

Take action for safer lorries
Transport for London (TfL) are seeking your views on a possible step towards safer lorries. But with your help, this could be the first step to a much bigger win. CTC is proposing a 'roadmap' so that, within a few years, the only lorries allowed on most built-up streets in London and elsewhere would be those whose cabs let the driver see cyclists as easily as bus drivers can.

CTC: Get tough on dodgy drivers and lorry operators
CTC has urged MPs to support increased resources for roads policing to improve safety for all road users. CTC’s Policy Director Roger Geffen told the Commons Transport Select Committee that cycle use has grown slowly but steadily since the late 1990s, but the risk per mile of a serious cycling injury started to increase from 2008.
