'Girls Go Better By Cycle' launches in Manchester

Women's cycling is in focus in March
CTC and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have been collecting together a programme of women's cycling events and activities across March to mark International Women's Day on Sunday 8 March.

There are exhibitions, rides, training, discounts, workshops and exciting family activities all around Greater Manchester to take part in and enjoy.

To celebrate and mark this Sunday's International Women's Day in Greater Manchester, we’ve been busy working with TfGM to collect together a programme of activities and events throughout March for Girls Go Better By Cycle.

Did you know that there are currently four male cyclists for every female cyclist commuting to work in the UK, despite an increase in the overall number of people getting on their bikes on a regular basis?"

So we've taken inspiration from the phenomenal This Girl Can campaign, and our fabulous female Olympic and Paralympic cyclists, to help women get on their bikes across Greater Manchester.

During March, we’ll give you all the information you need about a range of events and activities around women's cycling.

Don’t worry if you’re not the quite up to the standards of Laura Trott or Sarah Storey, there really is something for all ages and abilities; whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a complete novice, you’ll find an activity that is right for you."

Rachel Scott, Cycling Manager for TfGM

The range of events taking place includes; led rides, training courses, longer group rides, competitive circuit rides, exhibitions, social gatherings, discounts and competitions. There will also be a number of our women-only cycle training sessions taking place.

Come along to one of the great activities taking place and have some cycling fun, enjoy a ride, visit an exhibition, socialise, dress up or take part in the photo competition."

Jayne Rodgers, CTC Inclusive Cycling Champion for the North West

Whether you attend a cycling race, training course, workshop or exhibition, the important thing is that you get out there and show that women in Greater Manchester are Better By Cycle.

To top off all the activity we will be hosting a Girls Go Better workshop on 31 March at the Friends Meeting House in Central Manchester between 6pm and 8.30pm. We are inviting prominent and active women around Manchester to be involved and the idea is to showcase some best practice, inform, inspire and motivate the people that attend.
