I bike because...

I bike because it makes me feel like Wonder Woman.
To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March 2015, CTC's Cycling Development Officer for Manchester Anna Smith is collecting photographs of women across the city explaining why they ride their bikes.

Cyclists from the Greater Manchester area can upload their photos and vote to win prizes. The aim of the friendly competition is to inspire other people to cycle and celebrate the range of cyclists already riding in the city. Anyone can vote for any photograph they like, but you only get one vote, so choose wisely!

We want photographs of everyone – so whether you have just learnt to ride; you enjoy occasional riding with family or friends in parks and green places; your bike is your transport; you enjoy speeding on steaming tarmac; or love bumping about on dirt tracks in the wild forest – we would like your photograph!"

Anna Smith, CTC Cycling Development Officer based with Transport for Greater Manchester

There will be three winners:

1. The most popular image

2. The most creative composition – judged by an objective panel

3. A photo picked at random  – picked by the computer

Competition winners will be announced on 27 March at a special event held at Popup Bikes in Manchester. An exhibition of the photos is also planned.

The project is inspired by #ibikebecause in New York which showcased portraits of women and their bikes to highlight the gender imbalance in the world of cycling.
