Anaesthetists take to the road to raise money for CTC
Dozens of anaesthetists are swapping their theatre scrubs for cycling shorts to raise money to promote cycle safety, after their colleague Dr Guy Jordan, 41, died in a tragic cycling collision. They will be donating some of the funds raised to CTC.

Twenty-six riders will leave the London headquarters of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI) in Portland Place, Central London, on Saturday 13 September to cycle the 230 miles to the Harrogate International Centre where the AAGBI’s Annual Congress is being held. A second group of six cyclists will travel from Bristol, where Dr Jordan worked as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care medicine at North Bristol NHS Trust.

On behalf of the whole Jordan family I would like to thank the AAGBI cyclists for their incredible commitment to raising funds in Guy’s memory," Ben Jordan, brother

The team have set up a fundraising page to raise money for CTC, the national cycling charity, to promote cycling safety, and are also fundraising for Lifebox Foundation, which aims to save lives in poorer countries by promoting safer surgery.

Guy Jordan was an experienced road cyclist, who died in a tragic incident in November 2013 involving a collision with an oil tanker. He was flown by helicopter to his own place of work, Frenchay Hospital, where close colleagues battled to save his life. Sadly, he died the following day.

His brother Ben, who is an Accident and Emergency Consultant at the hospital where Guy died, said: “On behalf of the whole Jordan family I would like to thank the AAGBI cyclists for their incredible commitment to raising funds in Guy’s memory. The funds raised by this bike ride will help CTC to campaign for the right of cyclists to use the roads safely.”
