About us

CTC Rugby is a Cycling UK informal group. During May, 2018, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Rugby Wednesday Riders, founded by Avril Eyre in 1993. Now she leads the way having gone electric, enabling her to continue group riding as our oldest regular member.

Information about the group rides

Rugby lies close to the eastern border of Warwickshire. This allows our rides to visit the neighbouring counties of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and even Oxfordshire. Consequently we experience a variety of scenery on our day rides.

The Wednesday Riders form the main group, having led day rides which begin at one of five designated places close to Rugby, generally entailing a morning coffee stop, pub lunch and, often, an afternoon cafe stop. These rides vary in length from about 45 miles during the winter, extending to an annual summer 100 mile ride, usually taken at an average of 11-12 mph. A few members only come for part of the ride.

During 2019 there were a number of long rides to challenge members:

Sunday 2nd June - CTC Coventry TriVet

Locally run 100 - mile rides:-

Wednesday 10th July - Northampton 99; 24th July - Hilly Hundred; 14th August - Meriden 100

2020 didn't see the group able to plan long rides but this last summer we did manage a 100 mile ride into the edge of the Cotswolds going via Wellesbourne to Hook Norton returning via Warmington and Daventry.

This year's Christmas lunch was at Kilworth Springs Golf Club again on December 21st 2022 and saw a number of older members joining the group for the meal.

Aug 2023 Update  - Summer rides will continue with the 09:30 start time unless otherwise notified. A final spring/summer rides list is now available. The 100 mile ride planned for the start of Aug was cancelled due to injuries and availability of riders. Planning for the autumn/winter rides will start shortly and a draft list published when available.
