Arundel Agenda 21

Welcome message for visitors:

Welcome to Arundel Agenda 21 homepage, who are an affilated group of CyclingUK.

About The Group

Arundel’s Agenda 21 group was formed in 1997, we address issues around Community and Environment and have been involved in a series of one-off and ongoing community-led sustainability campaigns including the Arundel community bus, Arundel farmers’ market, setting up the Fair Trade status, the town’s annual seed swap and local produce show, a school exchange initiative, greening campaign and many more.

The name came from the Agenda 21  action plan of the United Nations (UN) related to sustainable development and was an outcome of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, in 1992. It is a comprehensive blueprint of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the UN, governments, and major groups in every area in which humans directly affect the environment.

Sometimes we initiate a project and pass it on to another group – as happened with the Arundel Community bus, the farmers’ market , the Arundel flower and produce show, and the town’s Fairtrade initiative (Arundel has Fairtrade town status) and sometimes we run events and campaigns ourselves.

Arundel Agenda 21 is constituted as a not-for-profit membership society with an annual AGM. Details of meetings will be posted on this site. Please do feel free to pop along, email us or fill in the form below for more information.

The group is open to anyone who lives or works in Arundel and the surrounding villages. We currently have about 30 members but we always want more. Members can opt to attend meetings (not too often), take on or help with a project or just help on the odd day when we have events.
