Women on Wheels - a day of cycling action
Women have been behind some of the most interesting developments in cycling in recent years, from cycle campaigns to sport, all-abilities cycling and even leisure rides. Whether your interest is campaigning, racing, family riding, ‘cycle chic’ or just getting on your bike, come along to meet the women who are already making things happen, and come away with the ideas and inspiration to do more.
Women on Wheels 2014 is a day of female (and family) focused events, all part of the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling. On Saturday 14th June there will be:
The Women’s Cycle Forum – a debate and networking event with confirmed speakers including Rachel Aldred (LCC policy forum), Sara Dorman (Pedal on Parliament), Sally Guyer (Cambridge Raincoat), Claire Connachan (Belles on Bikes), and Polly Jarman (Play on Pedals) 6-8 pm, Ukrainian Club, Edinburgh. Tickets £5 (includes refreshments)
Bike Curious family workshop – do you know your trailer from your tagalong and your bike seat from your bakfiets? Would you like to transport your family by bike but just don’t know where to start – or are you looking to graduate from a bike seat to a trailer or a tandem? Worried a new addition to the family might put a crimp in your pedalling style? Come along and meet experienced cycling families to try out various solutions and get the real low down on cycling with kids. 10-12 at Sciennes Primary school, followed by a ‘kiddical mass’ family ride around the Meadows.
Belles on Bikes ride – join other women for a ride, cake and a chat. A led cycle ride along low-traffic and off-road routes of 20 or 40 miles. Meet top of Middle Meadow Walk at 10:30
