Joan and Bob Courtney Certificate of Merit

Bob & Joan Courtney joined the CTC in the early 1980s.

Right from the beginning they exhibited that factor of magnetic attraction that gathered people around them and within months of joining had formed a riding group within the old Bournemouth section of the Wessex DA which they named the Inters. This group was needed badly. There was only a General Section in those days too fast for most; and a Potterers Group which was too slow for the rest. The Inters still exist today and thrives with Bob and Joan still its leading personalities after over 30 years.

Countless new members have started with the Inters enjoying its happy-go-lucky atmosphere, many have moved on to other groups and started a life-long attachment to cycling as a result, all down to Bob & Joan’s nurture.

Over the 30 years involvement, Bob & Joan have served on the Bournemouth section committee and also on the Wessex DA committee continuously. Bob has served a three year term as Wessex DA President. They have participated in organising more events and tours for CTC Wessex than anyone can truly remember, from marshalling the Dorset Coast 200km to trips to Majorca and to organising Christmas Teas for all the local groups.
