Ken Knight - Certificate of Merit

A supporter of The Harlequins, for more than 50 years, including periods as Club Captain and later Racing Secretary, for over 20 years Ken has been involved with CTC Shropshire and has twice received the Ray Page Award for his contribution to cycling in Shropshire.

A larger-than-life character, raconteur and bon viveur, Ken brings a highly individual approach to organising Audax, touring and social events. These have included many trips to the Ghent 6 Day racing and a variety of summer and Easter tours at home and abroad.

Audax events over the years have included the Three and Four Rivers Audax; the Long Mynd Audax and the Harlequin Hack. His rides are imaginatively planned, meticulously organised and challenging – as participants who have struggled over the Long Mynd will testify!

Ken has edited two club magazines, the Harlequinade and CTC Shropshire’s Wheelmarks, which he produced over 12 years until stepping down at the end of 2011. Under his capable editorship, Wheelmarks has become a lively, colourful, entertaining read attracting widespread praise for its high quality, professional appearance.

Seeing the value of preserving the unique period glass-mounted slides from the old Shropshire and Mid Wales DA historic collection (which go back to their formation in 1928), Ken has put the whole collection into digital form and it is now available on CD and in print thus preserving a unique historical record.

Ken Knight, during more than half a century of cycling, club riding, racing and touring, through the many exceptional events he has planned, organised and led, has made a significant contribution to the well-being of members, enhancing the public image of the groups with which he has been associated and of cycling generally.
