How the separate training and assessment courses operate
Some of the higher level Cycling UK courses are provided in two separate parts: a training course that enables you to understand and begin to apply the principles expected at that level of qualification and an assessment to confirm your competencies against the qualification criteria.

Between these two, a period of experience building or consolidation is required to fully embed your learning prior to the assessment. This is often called the logbook period.

Courses that are provided through the separate training and assessment system include:

  • Advanced Leader
  • Skill Instructor
  • Leader Trainer

Your experience

All these courses have pre-requisites including the holding of other Cycling UK qualifications (usually Technical Leader). They would also expect further application in areas relevant to their context such as riding in mountain areas for the Advanced Leader.

Any other experiences and qualifications that you hold will aid your learning, but will still need to be put into the context of # the course that you are attending.
