CTC urges cyclists to support its call for a ban on lorries that do not meet direct vision standard by 2025. This plan could be extended to other parts of the UK too.

Transport for London (TfL) are seeking your views on a possible step towards safer lorries. But with your help, this could be the first step to a much bigger win. CTC is proposing a 'roadmap' so that, within a few years, the only lorries allowed on most built-up streets in London and elsewhere would be those whose cabs let the driver see cyclists as easily as bus drivers can.

 
 
Michael Gledhill has been jailed for four years and eight months and disqualified from driving for four years for causing the death of former CTC Councillor John Radford by dangerous driving – a sentence that comes 30 months after the road rage incident that claimed the cyclist’s life.

 
 
CTC has told the Government that the system for training and testing drivers needs to boost their understanding of cyclists and how to share the roads with them safely and considerately - and that including cycle training as part of the process would help achieve this. We've also called for the licensing process to toughen up on bad driving.

Driver Derek Edward Chenney has been sentenced to a curfew order and a two year driving disqualification after admitting to causing the death of head teacher Paul Miller by careless driving. Chenney drove into the illuminated cyclist, having failed to see him for seven seconds. But why was he charged with 'careless' rather than 'dangerous' driving?

At last, a senior member of the legal profession showing sympathy for a cyclist. CTC is delighted to draw attention to the comments of Judge Sean Enright in the case of a tailgating lorry driver who pushed over an elderly cyclist, breaking his leg.
